The choice of services available to clients are:

  • picture cleaning, varnish removal, tear and structural repair, varnishing, in-painting, condition reporting and conservation re-framing.
  • collections care advice, condition surveys, improvement of storage and display methods, housekeeping programmes, handling advice, workshop organisation and supervision.
  • paint analysis, pigment identification, media analysis and other scientific investigative tools are offered on a contract basis.
  • logistical hanging problems, planning and management of installation and de-installation of pictures, transportation and packing supervision.

When approaching any conservation project, the studio’s aim is to treat all works of art as sensitively as is workable. Reversibility is the cornerstone of studio practice and the studio will approach the problem with as non-interventive an approach as possible, whilst maintaining the necessary highest conservation standards combined with high quality work to enable repair and preservation.

The studio supports a free ‘Picture Clinic’ where members of the public have the opportunity to talk to an experienced accredited conservator about the condition of their paintings at no charge.
