In a painting as ghostly, dark and harrowing as this, a 4” wide shadow moulding was used to make the canvas appear to float in the frame.  The gesso was polished to a very smooth finish and layers of dove grey bole applied to create a seductive, translucent, marble like effect, which adds to the painting’s ghostly feel. Despite being in contrast to the darkness of the canvas the frame successfully focuses the attention on the painting.
